Happy Franchisees & Quality Brand
During a 2020 interview with Melany Viljoen, owner and founder of successful beauty franchise Tammy Taylor Nails South Africa, Carte Blanche covered various aspects of the Tammy Taylor Nails SA business. The interview lasted four hours, and Melany Viljoen answered each question posed by the interviewer.
However, when the show was aired in August 2020, only a small portion of the interview was shown, and the interview was cut to reflect a specific point of view – that of dissatisfied franchisees. Even though the interviewer herself acknowledged that most franchisees were happy (see video below of interview footage), this was not portrayed in the final edit.
A second video below shows the Carte Blanche interviewer confirming that feedback shows the brand is high quality with luxury products and a good reputation. This was also not accurately portrayed in the final show that was aired.
In addition, various footage taken of Melany in the Tammy Taylor Nail School, was not shown. This footage explained Melany’s work in empowering women to become fully trained nail technicians, and ensuring that they are placed within the countrywide Tammy Taylor Nails salon network in South Africa. This contributes extensively to job creation in South Africa, through job placements and training. The inclusion of this segment during the interview process led the interviewee to believe that the show that was to be aired would be a balanced representation of the work done at Tammy Taylor Nails SA in empowerment and job creation, however this was not the case.
